It consist of nine major villages with 430
households, covering an area of 90.3 square km. Geographically the gewog falls in the lower
east of Tashiyangtse Dzongkhag sharing its northern boundary with the Indian state of
Arunachal Pradesh (Tawang), the western boundary with Phongmey and Bidung Gewogs of
Tashigang Dzongkhag. Being on the border with Tawang a Police outpost is also located at
Dukti Village.
The crop of Geog has only about 20 percent of its land area under
cultivation while the other parts are used as open grazing land. The cultivated slopes are
steep except for the land around the Drangmechu riverbank (at Doksum Sot), which is famous
for producing the first green chilies.
The crop of Geog has good potential to grow
potato in and around Thragom and citrus fruits at Yallang and Phungyang for cash income
generation. However, without nearby road access the potential for growing cash earning
fruits has not yet being optimally exploited.
While subsistence agriculture
farming and livestock rearing provide the main livelihood for the geog, some of the people
earn cash income by weaving and working as contract workers to supplement rural
income.
It has 4 community Primary schools. Most of the households have easy
access to schools. Children coming from few far flung households need to walk more than 2
hours (two ways) a day to attend school, which greatly hamper their studies. These children
attend schools as boarders at Thragom Community Primary School.
One BHU and four
ORC render basic health services in the geog. The geog also has one RNR center, which
delivers extension services in the Geog.
Yallang Geog has no access to motor
roads. Yallang geog has been electrified recently.
