Jamkhar Gewog is situated on the right bank of
Dangmechu and is the southern most Geog of Trashiyangtse Dzongkhag, covering an area of
about 31.4 sq.km with 353 households. The Geog shares its northern boundary with
Tomzhangtshen Geog, the western boundary with Ngatshang Geog of Mongar and southern boundary
with Yangneer Geog of Tashigang Dzongkhag.
Paddy, maize, wheat, buckwheat and
vegetables form the major crops grown in the Gewog. The production of maize is the highest
among other cereal crops. Other crops grown in the Gewog include barley, buckwheat and
millet. The Gewog has a good potential to grow citrus fruits such as mangoes, oranges,
pomegranate, avocado, jackfruit to generate cash incomes. Orange is grown but in limited
quantity
The Gewog has three Community Primary Schools availing education
facilities. A few scattered households are still far from the existing schools. Students
coming from such households attend as boarder in Tongzhangsa Primary School.
The
Chazam- Tashiyangtse Highway passes through the Gewog. A 5.1Km farm road is being
constructed from Tsergom to Jamkhar Geog office. Jamkhar Geog being close to Tashigang
Dzongkhag, about 30% of the households are electrified.
