Tomzhangtshen Gewog

It consists of 22 villages with 462 households, covering an area of 84 square km. The geog is bordered by Tashiyangtse Geog in the north, Ngatshang geog of Mongar in the west and Jamkhar gewog in the south.

Paddy, maize, wheat, buckwheat and vegetables are the major crops grown. Orange is grown in a limited quantity although the geog has good potential for growing citrus fruits for cash income generation.

With the completion of a 12 Km rural access road to the gewog center at Nyagardzong, it will provide the geog the opportunity to optimally utilize its potential in potato production and citrus fruits (mainly orange) in the lower altitudes. The Chazam-Tashiyangtse Highway partially runs through the Gewog.

It has 3 community primary schools. Pockets of Changmadung and Baynanagkhar villages are far off from the schools. Children from these communities need to walk for more than three hours (two ways) a day to attend school. Thereby, these children attend as boarder at Tongzhangsa Lower Secondary School. The Famous Gomphu Kora Nye and Trichu Gonpa, His Holiness Namkhai Nyingpo’s Monastry are located within this Geog.
