Brief background of Yalang Gewog

Yalang is one of the 8 Gewogs under Trashiangtse Dzongkhag. The Gewog center is located at Thragom, a village under Rolam chiwog. It shares international boundary with Arunachal Pradesh, India to the North. It has an area of 90 sq.Km and altitude ranging from 850masl at Bephushoth to 4000masl at Tshongtshongma.

There are five chiwogs with 11 major and minor villages. There are 453 house holds with 157 Gungtongs. Of 5 chiwogs, only one chiwog has motor road connectivity and remaining 4 chiwogs do not have road connection.

Yalangpas speak two different dialects i.e. Tshanglakha which is common in the eastern Bhutan and Zalakha (Spoken in Dukti chiwog and Thragom village).

The people are mainly farmers growing paddy, maize, and millets as their staple cereals. They also grow vegetables like potato, chilli, cabbage etc… The Gewog is famous for its winter chilli cultivation as they produce first chilli for the year in the nation. The Gewog has 3 Primary schools, 2 PHCs, RNR office, CC office and a Community Police check post at Dukti.
